In an effort to encourage outside contributors to visit and post about its destination, the St Pete-Clearwater tourism board has launched a campaign that is seeking people to focus on three areas: dining, sunsets and its bars. It is paying people $10,000, plus airfare and hotel, to spend 10 days in the area as an incentive to enter this promotional campaign.
Each category has a catchy title to it and the one about bars is called the Chief Vibes Officer. The job description is to conduct “very serious field research across live music, nightlife, entertainment, and wherever else the vibes lead.” One contributor, The Nightlife Blogger of PubClub.com, feels he has exactly what it takes to feel the St. Pete-Clearwater vibes and share them with his audience on social media and through blog posts.

"This could not be more up my alley," The Nightlife Blogger wrote in a post on PubClub.com. "The booze is in the blender, so to speak. I’m the olive in the martini, the straw that stirs the St. Pete-Clearwater drinks."
He's the straw that stirs the St. Pete-Clearwater drinks. That's a pretty good self description. And he's got a pretty good track record to back up that bravado, having written about places around the world from the Greek Islands to Croatia, London, Thailand, across California and, a lot closer to St Pete-Clearwater, Key West.
He goes on to state that he is familiar with the area because his family took annual summer vacations to Clearwater, tho he admits that was in his pre-adult stage. So the music and bar scene was not part of the family's activities, tho he is certainly eager to experience the vibes of that scene now.
“Our new executives have the tough job of eating, drinking, exploring and soaking up St. Pete-Clearwater … and getting paid for it,” says Brian Lowack, president and CEO of Visit St. Pete-Clearwater. “It may sound like a vacation, but there’s real work to do. Getting to know our destination means experiencing it day in and day out, following what interests and surprises you and sharing those discoveries with others.”
Winners will be announced the first of November and then head directly into the sun of St Pete-Clearwater to carry out their new job. We'll see if The Nightlife Blogger is among them.
